Liar Game - Korean Drama

Liar Game is a 2014 South Korean television series based on the Japanese manga of the same title by Shinobu Kaitani. It starred Kim So-eun as Nam Da-jung, Lee Sang-yoon as Ha Woo-jin and Shin Sung-rok as Kang Do-young. It aired on tvN from October 20 to November 18, 2014 on Mondays and Tuesdays at 23:00 for 12 episodes.

The Korean version of Liar Game has several differences from the Japanese version and the manga. While the manga version depicts the "Liar Game" as a secret underground event for the enjoyment of an unknown audience, the Korean version portrays it as a reality show broadcasted on TA. Instead of masked characters acting as the game's hosts, the Korean version's host is Kang Do Young and plays a much more central role in the story. Also, while most of the games played in the Korean version are the same as the manga, the Korean version's final round was distinctly different.

Synopsis[]

Nam Da-jung is an innocent college student who passes a hidden camera audition and is invited to join the reality show Liar Game, a psychological survival game wherein participants trick each other and the one who ultimately succeeds wins the prize money of ₩10 billion. Tempted with the chance to pay off her debts, Da-jung joins the game and gets conned out of the initial money given to her. In desperation, she asks genius ex-con swindler and former psychology professor Ha Woo-jin to help her win the game.

Trivia[]

  • The Liar Game drama will be set in the same shared universe as the drama, Pied Piper. The series follows a police crisis negotiation team as they try to solve cases without using force. One of the characters works for JVN, the same broadcasting station that hosted the Liar Game Tournament. Ryoo Yong-jae confirmed this on his twitter, but did note that the shared universe would not be as big or major, but a small part of the story. [1]
